Quetzalcoatl is a Dark Elder and the master of both Billy the Kid and Black Hawk.
The Ballad of Black Hawk and Billy the Kid[]
Quetzalcoatl is mentioned as being the Elder who made Billy and Black Hawk immortal.
Billy the Kid and the Vampyres of Vegas[]
Quetzalcoatl orders Billy to bring an old artifact to Scathach. Later it turns out that he has been working together with Setanta and planned to lead Scathach into a trap in Vegas.
The Sorceress[]
Quetzalcoatl's existence is hinted at when Billy releases a swarm of flies at Alcatraz for his Elder master, who has prepared the spell.
The Necromancer[]
Quetzalcoatl makes his first appearance. After being unable to stop Perenelle Flamel from escaping, he gives Billy and Niccolo Machiavelli new orders on behalf of Machiavelli's master Aten, who he is very close to. Apparently, Aten has saved his life after the fall of Danu Talis and they have been working together ever since.
The Enchantress[]
Despite a grudge dating back to before the fall of Danu Talis, Quetzalcoatl contacts Bastet, seeking help after Black Hawk, Machiavelli, and Billy the Kid fail to release the monsters of Alcatraz to San Francisco. Quetzalcoatl later plays a role in unleashing the Spartoi, however, once this plan fails he and Bastet are chased out of the city by Tsagaglalal.
Appearance[]
Quetzalcoatl is described as a middle-aged man with copper skin. He seems to be bald and have a long white beard. His eyes are completely black. He wears white linen clothes and has a long, feathered tail, which he is very insecure of and, thus, dislikes hearing comments about.
Abilities[]
- Immortality: Quetzalcoatl is Immortal and does not age. Though an immortal may be poisoned or slain in battle, they may live for thousands or millions of years.
Trivia[]
- In Nahuatl his name means "Feathered Serpent", meaning that his epithet in the books is merely a translation of his name.
- In Nahuatl spirtuality, he is worshipped as a deity of the wind, knowledge and life, having been the creator of their second world cycle (Second Sun), playing an important role in the creation of the humans of the current world cycle (Fifth Sun) and being the inventor of the calender and chocolate.
- He is an avid chocolate lover and collector of artifacts.
- At some point Quetzalcoatl had a falling-out with Billy the Kid, and came close to revoking his immortality.
- Quetzalcoatl confirms that he is related to Scathach in some way in Billy the Kid and the Vampyres of Vegas. This seems to be a reference to his mother Coatlicue being the creator of vampirism.
- There is a pterosaur, a flying reptile that lived alongside the dinosaurs, named Quetzalcoatlus.
